And today we have:
Stephen King: The Stand.
The tale of a group of people surviving a deadly superflu, wiping out most of the population. Two groups reconvene to reform society, under Mother Abigail's (largely spiritual) guidance in Boulder, Colorado, and under the autocratic tyranny of Randall Flagg in Las Vegas.
It is a long tale, an epic, a fabulous tale. A cast of many, each painted in their own individual way so that each one comes alive.
What's not to like about this? This apocalyptic tale really sets the bar for tales of this genre. The story is long, and you'll love every sentence of it, only wishing it had been longer at the end.
